Matthew Scully, Christian author of the seminal faith-based animal rights book Dominion, recently penned an article for the National Review titled “Christmas & the Animals: Seeing Other Creatures With Wonder and Love.” In this new piece, he applies the core tenets of his Christian faith and evidence from the Holy Scriptures to advocate protecting animals from human cruelty.

He takes factory farming—and Christians who turn a blind eye to it—to task: “We have seen the enterprise twisted and transformed into the mass ‘processing’ of animals, a system of hyper-intensive cruelty that produces about 95% of animal products.” Because much of this horror occurs away from the public eye in unmarked industrial buildings, people disconnect from the reality of animal suffering. Scully explains, “With walls, real and emotional, we place these creatures beyond the reach of our compassion.”

We hope you’ll read the article and share it—as well as Dominion—with your faith community. PETA LAMBS wishes you a holiday season of tearing down walls and embracing not only wonder and love but also a renewed compassion for all animals.
