Despite continued pressure and growing disappointment with Christian musicians’ participation in SeaWorld’s Praise Wave music festival, the park has announced that yet another musician has agreed to perform: Fred Hammond. As we told the other Praise Wave performers, Lecrae, Colton Dixon, and Steven Curtis Chapman, God made orcas free, so they shouldn’t be held captive.
LAMBS has rushed a letter to Hammond urging him to listen to his fans and cancel the performance. Animals—including those held in pitifully small tanks at SeaWorld—long to praise their creator, but this desire, along with some of their most basic instincts, is thwarted in captivity. Instead of being “free to worship,” orcas spend their days in captivity gnawing at iron bars and concrete from stress, anxiety, and boredom, sometimes breaking their teeth.
As we find ourselves entering the season of Lent—a time to celebrate reflection and sacrifice—we hope that Hammond will agree to take a stand against animal abuse.
Please help us and animals by urging him to cancel his performance. Click the button below to send a polite e-mail asking him to stand up for animals held captive at SeaWorld!
