Pope Francis has named three auxiliary bishops for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles—the Revs. Joseph Brennan, David O’Connell, and Word on Fire founder Robert Barron. To congratulate them, we’ve sent them gift baskets packed with tasty vegan meats, dairy-free cheeses, and other snacks, along with a letter asking them to heed the pope’s call to protect the environment by taking PETA’s 30-day pledge to try vegan.

Pope Francis’ passion for fighting climate change has prompted the Vatican to organize meetings with religious leaders and policymakers, and the pope released a letter to bishops this summer about the need to protect the environment.

The United Nations has stated that animal agriculture is “one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global.”

Consuming animals is a needless waste of dwindling resources and flies in the face of what it means to be a responsible steward. The solution? Go vegan! We hope the bishops will agree and will pledge to go vegan for at least 30 days.
