After learning that the Denver Rescue Mission in Colorado had put out an urgent call for Thanksgiving food donations to help feed the homeless this holiday season, LAMBS immediately offered to send the hunger-relief organization 250 delicious vegan Tofurky roasts. After receiving our letter, the director of public relations for the Denver Rescue Mission, Alexxa Gagner, accepted our offer!
“Feed the hungry and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as day.”
The donation should make the season brighter (and healthier) for the region’s hungry as well as for animals. We hope the Tofurky will offer food for thought, since turkeys also need our compassion this holiday season.
More than 300 million turkeys are killed in the U.S. every year—45 million for Thanksgiving dinners alone. Turkeys are sensitive, smart, social, and resourceful birds who deserve to be treated as living beings, not centerpieces.
What You Can Do
Delicious, healthy vegan foods offer both hungry humans and exploited animals a reason to give thanks. Pledge not to eat turkeys this Thanksgiving, and instead enjoy these delicious recipes with friends and family throughout your holiday season
